Welcome back everyone.
You may have noticed things have shifted slightly around here. Morphed from your usual picture and journal entry sort of layout into, well, kind of the same thing, but I think we’ve gotten a little fresher. What do you think?
As many of my readers will know, a month ago, I took on a new job. With it came a wealth of new responsibilities and adaptation on my part. The workload was nothing I couldn’t handle, but some of my side projects and less essential writing got pushed down the totem pole.
Well, I’ve got a handle on the upper portions now, and it’s time to slot this back in.
I had a hard time trying to come up with a way to not only categorize my old posts in a way that made sense (both electronically and in my head, my head probably being the more complicated space) and it also took me some time to rework some things on this website.
Now, if you’re looking for some of my older posts, they can be found under the Journal tab inside VOLUME 1. I’ve also pulled some of the more popular and featured posts from the throng and given them their own special section.
I hope you like the (slightly) new look. I thought about starting completely from scratch, but opted not to for two reasons. One, it’s expensive. I don’t have the money to hire a web designer at this point, though I’d love it. I also didn’t want to spend any more money on basic themes that I knew wouldn’t get me the end result I was looking for anyway. So, I cleaned up my current theme, and this is what we’re working with for the time being.
A part of me knows that it doesn’t matter, it’s really my writing you come here for, not my web design skills, but I really would like this site to be more mobile-friendly for all you people reading this on a smart phone.
There may be a few glitches still to work out (a series of my newer posts decided to pack their bags and leave during my reboot. I’m not sure where they are or if they’re coming back) but I think we’ll work out all the kinks in the end.
I seriously enjoyed my daily blogging experience in Volume 1 and hope to get the same thrill this time around.
So what’s new?
Okay, you can expect the same travel stories, the same posts about writing and working etc. However, I’m hoping to also comment more on the other content that I’m consuming as well. Whether that’s books, newspapers, music, movies, whatever. I think it’s only fair that I share some of my interests and other people’s work while also writing so much about my own.
Lastly, and this is probably what I’m most excited for. I want to start writing my own features exclusively for this blog. I have a series idea, and it’s been kicking around in my head for a while, and would involve a series of interviews with some awesome people and telling their stories. I haven’t decided on the exact individuals yet, but I want to move that forward soon.
Okay, with that, I’ll see you all tomorrow.
Welcome to Joel’s Blog Volume 2.
As always, thanks for reading.
