Joel’s Journal - Entry #157 - 4/5/2017
Today’s journal is going to be a little more simple than yesterday’s….just a second.
There was someone screaming outside my window. From my desk chair I can just lean over and push back the curtains, but it was too dark to see anything. I ignored it the first time and continued writing that first sentence 👆but then it happened again so I had to go to the kitchen window and see if I could see anything.
You see, I live in the south end of Oshawa, which, is not known for the best of things…
So, screaming and odd noises are common in some parts, but not generally around my house. The window outside only offers a glimpse of my neighbours backyard and a bit of street on the other side. I couldn’t see anything.
Anyway, back to the journal.
As I said, things today will be slightly simpler. It was another day in the office today as my fingers twitched manically across the keyboard churning out a batch of stories for next week. I think I managed to get seven in during my hours at the desk, so, all in all a pretty productive day. I still have my work cut out for me tomorrow though with a pair of features and sports stories to wrap up.
So, instead of writing about me writing (yeah, exciting) I’ll focus on what is going to happen later this week, particularly on Friday.
The first post was the announcement that my newspaper had been nominated for six Ontario Community Newspaper (OCNA) Awards, five of them for stories (four of which have my byline) and I was once again nominated for OCNA Reporter of the Year. Friday is the award ceremony where the official winners will be announced.
M and I are getting all dolled up in our best outfits and heading down to see what happens over a nice dinner joined by my editor and his fiance. It promises to be a good time, and if you want up to date info on how the award night goes, be sure to follow me on Snapchat and Instagram (and Twitter too!) for all the up to date stuff.
The real excitement begins afterward though, as M and I, looking fresh in our gala outfits, are hitting the road for Buffalo and kicking off our ROADTRIP 2017 adventure to Florida! I’ve secured a week off from the paper to make the trip down and after the long hours put in at the desk this week, a road trip adventure and sunny vibes are exactly what I need. I’m also not embarrassed to say I’m more than a little excited for Harry Potter World. Who WOULDN’T be excited for that.
So! Tomorrow, I’ll give a bit more details on trip prep, but for now, if you want to get all up to date, catch-up by reading these first posts. I’ve gotta jet, you know, work and stuff.
Oh, and keep doing what you love and doing it well!
Thanks for reading!
