Now, there isn’t going to be much of a cohesive flow to this journal, and I apologize for that. There is simply a lot I need to get out and not a solid way to connect it all.
So….remember when I said this.
Well, I didn’t keep my word yesterday, so I need to do that today. However, first let’s talk about this scary morning.
My alarm went off at its usual 6 a.m. and I pounded that snooze button several times, the noise like a wak-a-mole game trying to ruin my morning sleep. I honestly think my brain was just taking a little bit of extra time to recover from yesterday’s madness.
So, when I was finally coherent, I started the coffee and curled back up beside M to check Twitter and the news.
I was up and out the door about 15 minutes later.
The police had made the pretty grizzly announcement that a female torso had been discovered near the Oshawa Harbour on the coast of Lake Ontario. I instantly picked up the pace, poured the coffee into a thermos, kissed M and was out the door.
There wasn’t much to see, save for a bunch of caution tape and some police officers standing around drinking Tim Horton’s. However, I did grab some pictures for the front page and was able to get into the office around 8:30 a.m.
Honestly, that was a good thing as I needed to get a headstart on laying out the rest of the newspaper I didn’t get to when I left the office around 6:30 p.m. yesterday evening.
Okay, let’s fastforward.
The paper got out on time, I got myself centered for the upcoming week and met with my reporter to talk about this week’s content. Then I went home to do absolutely nothing. A much needed break.
(Save for writing this journal of course).
Okay, so I mentioned the weeks ahead, and by that I mean the next three weekends. Let’s break it down.
Weekend 1 - September 16 - Kitchener
I’ll be heading back to my hometown for an annual bocce ball tournament and I couldn’t be more excited. Yeah, you read that right, bocce! It’s huge! Some friends of my parents put it on annually and a massive group of people get together to play. There’s raffles, a chili cook-off, and definitely lots of beer drinking. It’s a great time!
After that, I’ve got to be back in Oshawa Sunday for a work assignment.
Weekend 2 - September 23 - Algonquin
Finally. As dedicated readers will know, Algonquin Park is one of my favourite places in the world. I will be heading into the park along with M and my friends Mike and Larissa. You remember them, I wrote that cute (and widely read) post about their wedding. You can read that HERE.
For those too lazy to click that link. I’m talking about THIS wedding…
Well, the four of us are heading into the park for the weekend, and I CAN NOT WAIT.
I haven’t been back in some time, and I feel I’m in desperate need of some natural therapy. It will also be nice to get into the woods for a couple days. I’m excited for the fall colours and the photos that will come out of it!
Weekend 3 - September 30 - JAMAICA
Yeah, Jamaica, enough said.
I will admit, the recent hurricane madness down south has kept me a little on edge, but I think we should be okay.
Besides, people lives are being uprooted and even lost in these storms. I can’t really get upset that one of them could disrupt my vacation.
With that said, M and I are flying out on September 30 for the week. It will be our second trip away of 2017 and my final week of vacation for the year.
I’ve never been one to take these sort of all-inclusive vacations, preferring the gritty feeling of campground showers and propane cooked food to the tropical heat.
However, this time, I have to say, I’m pretty excited.
Besides, spending a week beside M in a bikini…can’t really turn that down.
Thanks for reading!
