Joel’s Journal - Entry #64 - 3/1/2017
As I’ve mentioned, my mantra of 2017 is “do what you love and do it well.”
But that doesn’t I can’t learn to love a few new things along the way and possibly learn to do those well too, right?
I’ve always been fascinated by graphic design and people who can create things using the computer.
As a writer, I’m use to the pen and paper. In high school, my other creative outlet was graffiti, and I filled a collection of blackbooks with sketches and colourful pieces that I always thought were pretty good at the time. Even today you can catch me sketching some lettering or a wild-style piece while chatting on the phone during interviews.
Still though, that’s kind of the same process of taking an idea from your head and putting it on paper, just using different tools. That’s why, I’ve always respected those people whose minds allow them to be creative on a digital canvas. For the longest time I never even really tried because I figured I would never really be able to cut it.
Well, it’s 2017 and I’ve decided to push myself.
For this blog I’ve designed a few basic things with the help of YouTube and grazing the internet for inspiration to help with my daily journal logo and the crest I include with the entries. That’s about it though.
Tonight, after a day of work in the office and dinner and cuddles with M, I decided to take my crest to the next level.
I’ve always wanted to put it on a t-shirt or a hoodie, and even get like stickers and business cards for marketing materials whenever I need to start pushing my novel (when it becomes a reality).
So tonight I spent a few hours after M went home to upgrade the crest with my mantra and a few additional touches to make it worthy to emblazon on a t-shirt/sweater.
What do you think? Let me know in the comments! Would you wear one?
Anyways, that’s about it for me today. It was another chill day with working on our Year in Review for the upcoming edition and, as I mentioned, a cozy night with M. I’m really starting to like coming home and having her there. Dropping onto the couch beside her and having her wrap her arms around me is the best method for evaporating the stress of work.
That and watching hours of Netflix.
But for now, I’ve done enough work for the day, I’m going to read until my eyes get heavy.
As always, make sure that tomorrow you do what you love, do it well, and thanks for reading!
